We're located in sunny Tucson, Arizona, in the heart of the Sonoran desert where every day is paradise. The Sonoran Desert is an arid region covering nearly 100,000 square miles in southwestern Arizona, southeastern California and Sonora Mexico. There are very few mushroom farms in Southern Arizona due to the excessive temperatures that reach as high as 120 degrees fahrenheit in the Summer.
Because we're local growers in one of the hottest parts of the country we've learned to deal with unique challenges when cultivating and growing specialty mushrooms in commercial quantities. Water and environmental controls are among these challenges and mastering high yield crops in this harsh environment has taken years of preparation, practice and state of the art technology.
Some of our oyster mushrooms do quite well in warmer weather while others prefer subterranean conditions with much higher levels of humidity. We select genus of fungi that are best suited to deal with the higher temperatures of our area and we maintain precise climate controlled facilities, monitored around the clock to ensure optimal growing environments. Our fruiting, cultivation and inoculation environments are carefully controlled for the correct balance of O2, CO2, humidity and temperature, each specific to the type of crop in production. Unlike random conditions in the wild, commercial mushroom farmers maintain sterile environments with stringent quality controls to ensure a predictable crops.
Mastering the harsh desert environment takes a pioneering spirit shared by most folks that call the Old Pueblo home. Tucson has a proud heritage forged by independent ranchers and farmers that lives on today.
